Project Update: HARNESSING NATURAL RESOURCES (HNR) PROJECT
The project comprises of 26 rural tourism and enterprise initiatives across the three counties of Cavan, Fermanagh and Leitrim. With three flagship projects at Dowra Courthouse in Cavan, The Marble Arch Caves Visitor Centre in Fermanagh, Sliabh an Iarainn Visitor Centre in Leitrim and other projects to include walking, cycling and touring trails, attraction and angling developments, recreational and enterprise facilities
The aim of the project is to build on cross-border opportunities by promoting a shared approach to rural regeneration through tourism, enterprise and social development.Projects under the HNR banner are making headway and we expect completion of three of them in this area early in the New Year.
- Blacklion Village Trail – The refurbished Village Trail will allow for access from the bridge along the river and out onto the main Sligo road.
- The Gowlan Loops – there will be three new looped walks off the Cavan way in the Burren.
- Derrycassan Lake – fishermen will soon have access once again to Derrycassan Lake as the upgrading of access roads, parking and fishing stands is underway.
Projects completed and available for access include the Magho Cliffs viewpoint walk and Cladagh Glen. The upgrading of these areas has greatly enhanced the visitor experience and made both walks safer.
